Andrew Block is professor of law, general faculty, and the director of the State and Local Government Policy Clinic at the University of Virginia School of Law. He was the director of the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice from 2014–2019, where he led major reforms of the department. Block also directed the Child Advocacy Clinic at the School of Law from 2010–2014 and founded and served as the legal director of the JustChildren program of the Legal Aid Justice Center from 1998–2010. As director of the State and Local Government Policy Clinic, Block and his clinic students have helped develop, draft, and secure passage of 14 separate pieces of legislation before the Virginia General Assembly. Block served as vice chair of Governor Ralph Northam’s Commission to Examine Racial Inequity in Virginia Law from 2019–2022. He is a graduate of Yale University and Northwestern University School of Law.
