Micah Schwartzman is director of the Karsh Center for Law and Democracy and the Hardy Cross Dillard Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. He received his bachelor’s degree and J.D. from the University of Virginia and his doctorate in politics from the University of Oxford. His research and teaching focus on law and religion, constitutional law, and political philosophy. His scholarship has been published in numerous journals in both law and philosophy, including the Harvard Law Review, Supreme Court Review, and Political Theory. His legal commentary has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and other outlets. A member of the American Law Institute, Schwartzman is immediate past chair of the Association of American Law Schools’ Section on Law and Religion and serves on the Board of Academic Advisors for the American Constitution Society.
