The University of Virginia’s Karsh Institute of Democracy will host a series of events in Charlottesville from Oct. 19-21, bringing together journalists, policymakers, scholars, students and others to explore the biggest challenges facing democracy today.

The event, “Democracy360,” will feature several panels, discussions and programs at UVA and throughout Charlottesville. Former Illinois U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger will be one of the featured speakers and will join a conversation with Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. The Atlantic has teamed up with the Karsh Institute to serve as the official media partner for the event.

“I’m looking forward to three days of productive discussion informed by a diverse mix of perspectives, disciplines, sectors and fields,” UVA President Jim Ryan said, “as well as the chance to connect with others who care deeply about the future of democracy in America and around the world.”

Melody Barnes, executive director of the Karsh Institute, said this event and the important conversations that will come from it are at the heart of the institute’s mission.

“Rather than just talking about that future, we’re actively working to make it happen,” Barnes said.
