‘The Equity Clinic’: Good Governance at the Local Level

The Local Government Equity Clinic was developed jointly by the UVA School of Data Science and the Virginia Institute of Government (VIG) at the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service to promote good governance, equity, and resiliency. The clinic achieves this by training local government professionals in best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion as they pertain to such critical issues as housing, transportation, and land use. Clinic participants gather to discuss common challenges, review nuanced terms and concepts, and experiment with new ideas, focusing on the role of local government in facilitating equity in the community. What have they learned in their first two years? And what are the local outcomes that make the clinic a success?
