Irène Mathieu

Irène P. Mathieu, MD, MPH, is a general pediatrician, writer, and researcher at the University of Virginia, where she is an assistant professor of pediatrics and an assistant director of programs in health humanities in the Center for Health Humanities and Ethics. An iTHRIV Scholar and principal investigator of the WAYS Lab, Mathieu is on the steering committee of Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action. She is also the award-winning author of four books of poetry and is a widely acclaimed “eco-poet.” Mathieu has received creative writing fellowships from Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She holds an MD from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree of public health from Johns Hopkins University.
