Peter Maillet is a Faculty Fellow at UVA’s Karsh Institute of Democracy and a professor of commerce at the McIntire School of Commerce. He also leads the school’s international programs and partnerships as executive director for Global Strategy. Maillet previously served as the director of the McIntire Center for Global Commerce, a hub for global education, inquiry, and engagement.  

 Maillet's teaching and scholarship examine commerce as both a driver of human progress and a source of global challenges. As a Karsh Institute Faculty Fellow, he  exploresthe shared challenges facing democracy and capitalism, especially in an increasingly AI-driven world. 

Prior to joining the UVA faculty in 2005, Maillet served as a managing director at J.P. Morgan, working in a variety of investment banking and leadership roles across the firm’s offices in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Maillet holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering and a BA in political science, both from Stanford University.
