Nomi Dave is a socio-legal scholar whose research explores sound, listening and the law, with a focus on gender justice in West Africa and the United States. Her current project, Big Mouth, examines claims for justice and recognition in the context of sexual violence in Conakry, Guinea. The project is a collaboration with Bremen Donovan and Moussa Yéro Bah, and includes a film currently being co-written with Bremen, as well as text and advocacy.
Nomi received her Ph.D. from Oxford University, and previously taught at Duke University, in the departments of Cultural Anthropology and Music. She is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship, a Wenner-Gren Foundation research grant, and the Ruth Stone Prize for her book, “The Revolution’s Echoes.” Before pursuing doctoral studies, she previously trained as a lawyer and worked with refugees, asylum seekers and survivors of sexual violence in Guinea and the US.
