Kevin Barry serves as the director of development for the Karsh Institute of Democracy. In his role with the Karsh Institute, he also supports the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at UVA. 

Prior to joining the Karsh Institute, Barry spent five years as a major gift fundraiser for the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at UVA. During that time, he also managed the Benefactor Society Board, comprised of passionate philanthropic supporters from around the country, advising on fundraising strategies, strategic communications, and additional alumni engagement. 

Before coming to UVA in 2019, he developed his career at the University of Maryland while serving in several roles with the School of Public Policy, the Leadership Annual Giving team, and the Office of Gift Planning. He received his bachelor of arts in sociology from Baylor University and has enjoyed calling several regions of the country home—from New England, to Texas, to the D.C. corridor, and now Charlottesville.
