Approximately half the world’s population will vote in major elections in 2024, casting ballots in at least 70 countries for every level of government.
"The impacts of digital technology and social media, economic stresses, environmental factors, polarization along many different lines—whether cultural, religious, or political—are affecting democracies everywhere,” said Laurent Dubois, academic director of UVA's Karsh Institute of Democracy. “I think 2024 is a critical year for seeing how these forces influence democratic practice across different contexts.”

2024–25 Student Dialogue Fellowship
