The tight matches, high drama, and upsets that came with such a strong lineup of teams made this World Cup special, according to the Karsh Institute's Laurent Dubois, author of Soccer Empire and The Language of the Game.

Jered Cooper, a third-year student and government major, won UVA's second annual Oratory Competition sponsored by the Karsh Institute of Democracy and partners across the university.
Launched in October 2021, the Karsh Institute's One Small Step project has since recorded more than 80 conversations, both virtually and in-person, with participants from around the Charlottesville area. Learn more about what participants have discovered about each other in the project’s first year.
